Church Hill Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Edmond Road, about 8:05 am on August 22.

Police said motorist Kelly Wohlfarth, 33, of Danbury, who was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, was exiting the Wheels gas station/convenience store driveway at 67 Church Hill Road, as motorist Emily Brown, 35, of Danbury was driving a 2011 Ford Escape SUV westward on Church Hill Road.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Wohlfarth for failure to grant the right of way.

Truck vs SUV

At about 1:25 pm on August 24, Michael Englisch, 31, of Bridgeport, who was driving a Ford Transit T-250 truck northward on Hattertown Road, stopped about 150 feet north of its intersection with Wiley Lane, and then backed up in seeking to enter a driveway, but the Ford struck the front end of a northbound 2015 Honda CR-V SUV driven by Beth Dobsevage, 59, of New York City, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene to check on Dobsevage being possibly injured, police said. Police said they verbally warned Englisch for unsafe backing.

Five Charges

Police said they received a report concerning a counterfeit $20 bill having been passed by a customer at Church Hill Gas Stop at 47 Church Hill Road, about 2 pm, on August 24, so they responded to investigate.

Police said they then located a man matching the description that had been provided to them in the area of the Big Y supermarket on Queen Street.

After investigating, police charged Garrett Cornwell, 25, of Oxford with first-degree forgery, sixth-degree larceny, and possession of narcotics. Police said they additionally issued Cornwell an infraction of charges of possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cornwell posted $1,000 bail for a September 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Construction Zone

While traveling in a construction zone on westbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 10, at about 11:15 am on August 25, motorist Judith Larson, 68, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2013 Subaru Legacy, swerved in order to avoid some equipment and workers but then struck a traveling 2007 Kenworth truck driven by Jeremy Hillworth, 36, of Lyndhurst, Va., state police said.

There were no injuries. Larson received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane, according to state police.

Rear-Ender

At about 11:40 am on August 25, motorist Sueli Marano, 57, of Danbury, who was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, was slowing for heavy traffic conditions when the Hyundai was hit from behind by a 2002 Audi S-4 auto driven by Mark Scheunemann, 25, of Sandy Hook,.

Marano and a Hyundai passenger received suspected minor injuries, state police said. Scheunemann received an infraction for following too closely, according to state police.

Pontiac vs Nissan

Police report a two-vehicle accident on southbound Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, at about 5:10 pm on August 25.

The collision involved motorist Christopher Croteau, 29, of Shelton, who was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, and motorist Kimberly Szogedi, 49, of Milford, who was driving a 2014 Nissan Altima.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Croteau for unsafe passing.

South Main Street

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 87 South Main Street about 4 pm on August 26.

Police said that as motorist Alexandra Rocco, 21, of Goshen was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, motorist Patricia Maillet, 79, of Oxford, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Legacy, attempted to enter the street.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Maillet for failure to grant the right of way.

Car Off Road

Motorist Pamela Lind, 50, of Danbury was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra auto westward on Sugar Street, about 125 feet west of its intersection with Boggs Hill Road, at about 6 pm on August 26, when she became distracted and then drove off the right road shoulder, striking five guardposts, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Lind for a traffic violation.

Jaguar vs Acura

Motorist Gail Gay, 55, of Easton, who was driving a 2008 Acura MDX SUV southward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Park Lane, about 4:19 pm on August 26, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by a southbound 1999 Jaguar XJ driven by Xhenete Nelovic, 17, of Newtown, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Nelovic for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Asleep At The Wheel

State police report that motorist Patricia Pring, 44, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Cabriolet westward on Interstate 84, about 300 feet east of Exit 10, at about 11:54 pm on August 27, fell asleep at the wheel and then crashed into some guardrailing.

There were no injuries. State police said that Pring failed to maintain the proper lane.

Violation Of Probation

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Anna Lewis, 34, of Sandy Hook went to the police station at about 7:45 pm on August 29. Police said they charged Lewis with violation of probation. The probation charge stems from 2014 arrest involving a narcotics sale, police said. After processing, police released Lewis on $10,000 bail for a September 8 court appearance.

Mile Hill Road

At about 5:01 pm on August 31, motorist Norman Roos, 62, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Honda Civic eastward on Mile Hill Road, stopped and was waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn to enter the rear driveway of Walgreens Pharmacy, after which the Honda was struck from behind by an eastbound 1991 Dodge W-150 pickup truck driven by Richard Paloian, 51, of Sandy Hook, according to police.

There were no injuries. Paloian received a verbal warning for following too closely, police said.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident that occurred about 5:24 pm on August 31 on Mt Pleasant Road near Taunton Lane in Hawleyville.

Eastbound motorist John Bergquist, 41, of Newtown, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu sedan, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Maria Guimaraes-Gaudioso, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said that Guimaraes-Gaudioso had an adult learner's permit, but there was no driving instructor in the Honda. Police they issued her an infraction for following too closely and for operating a motor vehicle in violation of a learner's permit.
