Peter David Chapdelaine, 92, of Newtown, died on October 26, in Masonicare surrounded by caring family members. Born in Bridgeport on May 2, 1924, the son of Beatrice and Arside Chapdelaine, he resided in Connecticut and Florida (Miami and Winter Haven).

A graduate of Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport, he was extremely active in athletics and was a gifted tennis player. He attended the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, Fla., on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. A lifetime member of the Alumni Association, he was also a member of the New England Lawn Tennis Association and past member of the US Tennis Association. Seeded on the East Coast in singles and doubles, a wall of trophies housed in his office were mute testimony to his understated skill, as he rarely spoke of himself.

Mr Chapdelaine was self-employed in the promotional advertising industry. His company, Premium Sales, was well known in Fairfield and New Haven Counties, as was his wry, often absurd, sense of humor and self-deprecating wit.

In later years, as executive producer, he helped finance an American Film Institute award-nominated instructional documentary Drive to Win with Mario Andretti created by Nutmeg Productions, Woodmont, Conn.

During his mid-late sixties, he trounced many younger players as he retained his powerful ground strokes until late in life. At the age of 90, he was contacted by the University of Miami's Athletic Division with a request that as the last living member of his class tennis team, he visit the university to promote the benefits of the sport and the role it played in his very healthy and long life.

His four children, David Chapdelaine and wife, Doreen Donaldson, of Newtown, Mariellen Chapdelaine of New Haven, Rosemarie Chapdelaine and husband, Joseph Kehlenbach, of Newtown, and John Chapdelaine and wife, Dolly Todice, of Waterbury; two sisters, Patricia Miller of Stratford and RoseMarie Gonzalez and her husband, John, of New Hampshire; one grandson, Daniel Sheehan-Balasic; and several nieces and nephews survive him.

Memorial donations may be made to the New England branch of United States Tennis Association, Youth Tennis Foundation of New England, which provides opportunities for children of all backgrounds and abilities to learn, play, enjoy, and excel at the sport of tennis. Checks can be sent to Youth Tennis Foundation of New England, 110 Turnpike Road, Westborough MA 01581, or call 508-366-3450 for additional information.

Services will be private. Arrangements in care of the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, Trumbull.
