According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving takes a life every 51 minutes in America.

It is illegal everywhere in America to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher, also according to NHTSA.

Extra police patrols will be on duty in Newtown this weekend. Patrols are planned for the late evening hours of Saturday, February 3, into early Sunday, February 4, and again from the late evening of Sunday, February 4, into Monday, February 5, according to Newtown Police Lieutenant Aaron Bahamonde.

The intent, according to the lieutenant, is to deter the behavior of driving under the influence. Police will enforce DUI laws during this focused Super Bowl Weekend Enforcement Project, he added.

Overtime pay for the additional officers working during the enforcement project is subsidized by grant money, according to Lt Bahamonde.

Millions of Americans are expected to be watching Super Bowl LII on Sunday, on NBC, when the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots battle it out at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm, although hours of pregame entertainment is also planned.
