Patrick McCarthy and Scott Newberry each pitched three strong innings and CJ Maurer came on to close out the game and lead Tendler Real Estate to a 12-1 win over Berkshire Motors in the Babe Ruth 13 Prep Division championship.

McCarthy allowed just one hit and one run (while striking out eight) in his three innings of work and Newberry was equally as strong in his three innings, allowing just one hit and walking one. Newberry helped himself, too, with three assisted putouts and one unassisted putout.

In the field, Jake Maher and Dylan Capon held down the defense while Brett Eastman made the defensive play of the game with a diving, rolling catch and a subsequent great throw to second base for a game-ending double play.

At the plate, Newberry was 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. McCarthy, Maurer, and Nick Magoulas had two hits apiece.

For Berkshire, Kyle Lyddy and David Marcucilli pitched well and received defensive support from Nick Moser. Dan Cascone had two hits and Michael Rambone had the only RBI to lead the offense.

Tendler reached the finals with a tough, 4-3 win over Package Automation. In that game, Tendler stole home twice in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win. With two outs, Jeff LeVasseur stole third and home on successive pitches to tie the game at 3-3 and Eastman, who stole second and third during LeVasseur’s movements, took home on a passed ball to hand Tendler the win.

McCarthy, Maurer and Steve Chuddy all pitched well and got outstanding defensive support. LeVasseur made a fine catch in deep leftfield while Eastman made a similar nice catch in centerfield. Brian McLaughlin’s clutch two-out single tied the game at two in the fifth inning, leading the offense.

For Package Automation, Scott Grant pitched four near perfect innings, allowing only one batter to reach base. Defensively, Brennan Coakley had six assists at shortstop while Jim Morlath made a leaping catch in centerfield to take away an extra base hit.

Berkshire Motors reached the finals with a 9-8 win over Quebecor-World. In that game, Cascone delivered a clutch hit in the bottom of the seventh to drive in the winning run. Quebecor had tied the game in the top of the gram with an RBI-single by Brian Hunt.

For Berkshire, Lyddy pitched well and received defensive help from Sean Reilly. For Quebecor, Anthony Santella had three hits and Josh Rouse added a double and triple. Brian Miles pitched well while John Morgan was strong in the field.
