Occupation: I’m an accountant, part-time. I work for a small company located in the old Fire Hose factory. We are the sole importer for large bolts of sheer fabrics from a company in France. It’s a flexible position and very accommodating, which is good, being a mom. I’ve been an accountant for 23 years, and it has never been dull. I worked for World Wrestling Federation right out of college.

Family: David and I have been married for 15 years. We have a daughter, Amelia, who is 12 and in the seventh grade at Newtown Middle School.

Pets: We have a dog, Penny, that is a rescue border collie mix. We also have a cat, Ahsoka. She’s named after a Star Wars character. She showed up at our doorstep last March, exactly one week and one day after we had to put down our 16-year-old cat, the last of our three older cats. She was dirty and hungry. It’s like God said, “Here you go.” She just moved in. I had to promise my husband he could still get a dog. And we have fish.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’m a townie. I was born and raised here. After college, I moved away for 12 years, and then we moved back 11 years ago. I’ve lived here a total of 33 years. My parents, the Scheibels, are still here and so is my youngest sister.

What do you like to do in your free time? I am the president of the Flagpole Photographers. I’ve been a member for three years. I’m a scrapbooker, and I wanted to take better pictures. That led me to join the club, to improve my photography. I also knit, and I love birding. I do enjoy reading, and drawing when I have the time. As a family, we like to go hiking and in the winter we like to go snowshoeing. We do love the outdoors. I like spending time with friends, too.

What are you currently reading? Right now, I’m reading a book about Photoshop elements Version 9. I’m teaching it to myself. I just recently finished reading The Secret Life of Bees, though, and I did like it a lot.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I really love to go to Nantucket, a childhood vacation spot. But recently, we’ve tried to go somewhere new each year. Last summer we went to Maine, to Acadia National Park, and this spring we’re going to Sedona, Ariz. We want to experience different parts of the country. There’s so much to see.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I love that I can go to the grocery store and run into my old Girl Scout leader, or one of my old teachers at the movies at Edmond Town Hall — and they recognize me. I love the flagpole and the Labor Day Parade, and sharing those things with my daughter. Newtown is still a very caring community, which I think is important. I think the best thing is Newtown’s character. I’m a little sad about some of the things I see chipping away at that character, like the bus driver issue. The bus drivers were part of the “family,” growing up. I don’t know anyone who is happy about this change.

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, who would you choose? I’d be interested in meeting George Washington. I’m interested in the Colonial period, so I’d like to spend time with him. Plus, I’ve always felt a weird connection to George Washington: we share the same birthday!

Do you have a personal philosophy? I always talk about balance. It’s important to have balance in life. You don’t want any one thing, or person, or activity to take over your life. I also think it’s important to treat others as you want to be treated.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Chocolate! Dark chocolate is my guilty pleasure. I get together with a group of women twice a year for scrapbooking weekends, and when we unload our cars it’s chocolate, chocolate, chocolate… and some scrapbooking stuff.
