Occupation: I’m a plant engineer and work for Covanta Energy, an international waste to energy company. Headquarters are in New Jersey, but I work in Bristol. We take commercial and municipal waste and burn it in our plants to make electricity. I’ve worked in various power plants since 1987. The fuels are different, but the plants are all the same.

Family: My wife, Clare, and I have two daughters; Cailee is 15 and Emma is 13.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved here about 16 years ago. We have been in Sandy Hook since 1995.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to garden. I grow long-stem roses. I like collecting old books. I go to all the book fairs. I love the Pequot Book Fair. You never know what you’ll find there. But most of my spare time is spent bringing one daughter to dance classes or the other daughter to orchestra. Cailee dances modern, tap, and some ballet. Emma plays viola, cello, piano, and guitar and is in two orchestras.

Do you have a favorite book? My all time favorite book is Watership Down by Richard Adams. I always have a copy with me, and I can’t even count how many times I have read it. I find it to be a very calming book.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I love the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I like everything about them and we’ve gone several times. It’s fantastic. You can drive up on the beach, park your car and look out on the ocean, or you can have bonfires on the beach at night.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I love it because people stay out of each other’s hair here. It’s an old New England town, where everyone minds his or her own business.

What changes have you seen in town? I like that a lot of stuff hasn’t changed in the years we have been here.

Who do you most admire? Margaret Thatcher comes to mind. She was a very strong figure. England needed her at that time — the right person, but not always the most popular one. Teddy Roosevelt is another. There again, the right person at the right time.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Do your best. I tell the girls that all the time — try your hardest.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? It would be spending an entire day working in the yard or garden, uninterrupted.
