Occupation: I’m a nanny for three preschoolers in Wilton, and I’m a doula. A doula takes care of new moms and new babies. I used to do it for my friends and then I got a job doing it. I was trained by an agency, but I do it privately now.

Family: My husband, Skip, and my son, Justin, who is 31 years old. My daughter, Michele and her husband, Howie, live in Torrington. She’s going to be a mom this year, so we’re going to be grandparents.

Pets: Our dog, Bowser, passed away in December. He was a rescue dog that we had for 14 years. No more pets, for now.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived here for 20 years.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to get outside and garden. I like to read. I do scherenschnitte, a decorative paper cutting technique. I’m a member of the GFWC, Inc, and I do publicity for them.

Do you have a favorite book? I like books by Nora Roberts. But my favorite books are children’s books. I read a lot to my kids that I nanny for, and we love any books that make us laugh.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? My favorite spot, where I go every year, is Smith Beach in Chesapeake Bay, Va. My niece owns a house on the beach and there are incredible sunsets.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The fact that even though it has grown so big, it still feels very country. Where I live it is very quiet, but I’m only five minutes from town. We live in a very peaceful area.

What is the biggest change you have seen in Newtown? When we first moved here, it was so dark at night that you couldn’t walk around the house without turning on a light, and it was so dark that I could look up out of my skylight and you could almost touch all of the stars. So many buildings in town have floodlights on, and it has taken away the beautiful night sky.

Who do you most admire? I admire preschoolers. They live in the moment. They teach me to not think about what we are going to do, or just did. Three- to 5-year-olds are the best ages. Kids can be very wise.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Honesty is the best policy. If you’re honest with everyone, you’re never looking over your shoulder. If you make a mistake, own up to it. Mistakes happen.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Sitting in the sun or putting the top down in my car and enjoying the warmth of the sun. I think the sun recharges my batteries.
