Occupation: I worked at Harvey-Hubbell in Newtown for 19 years and retired in 1987 from there. I was an inspector for the parts.

Family: I have five children, four boys and one girl. I have 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. I live with my daughter, Peggy, and her husband, André; my son Edward and his wife, Shelley, live here in Newtown, too. My son John and wife, Sharyn, are in New Milford and Rob and Judi are in California. I have a son Alfred and his wife, Erika, in Idaho.

Pets: I don’t have any pets now. When the kids were growing up we had all kinds of pets, though.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’ve lived here for 48 years. Our kids all went to school here and graduated from Newtown High School.

What do you like to do in your free time? I knit prayer shawls for St Rose, I visit people at convalescent homes, and I volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Drives, either registering people or working at the canteen after people give blood. My friend, Maggie, and I walk at least three times a week, and I go to Westchester to the dinner theater a few times a year with friends. I try to go out to lunch at least once a month with my friends. I love being on the go. I love to watch movies, too. I own 136 videos.

Do you have a favorite movie? One of my favorites is Dr Zhivago. For actors, I used to really like Harrison Ford, but I don’t know now. A long time ago, I used to love the actor Vince Edwards. He played Dr Ben Casey. I still have an autographed picture of him.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I went to Ireland for a family reunion in 2003, and last winter I went to Spain. But I would have to say my favorite places are California and Idaho, because that’s where two of my boys are. I go to visit them every spring.

What is the best thing about Newtown? It is still kind of country. There are still no fast food places or things like that. That’s one of the things I like about this town. I have always loved living here.

What is the biggest change you have seen in Newtown? The big homes. When we moved here, the homes were all little starter homes. We paid $14,000 for our first house in 1959.

What would you most like to do that you have never done? I would like to go to Alaska. I think it would be nice to take a cruise there and see something new.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I think it is the Irish proverb that is on a plaque my son gave to me: “Dance as if no one were watching, Sing as if no one were listening, and Live every day as if it were your last.”

What do you most cherish? My family. Family is everything.
