Occupation: I have my own business, “Sue Chef,” preparing home-cooked, healthy, customized meals delivered directly to homes, for folks who need assistance. I’ve been cooking ever since I was a kid. I trained with Randy Fuhrmann in California years ago and was the staff chef for Panavision in Hollywood for a while. But then I worked in relocation — corporate real estate — for a number of years, and just started Sue Chef eight months ago.

Family: I have a daughter, Sage DeSimone, who is 11 years old, and a son, Dylan DeSimone, who graduated in 2006 from Newtown High School and is a senior now at UConn.

Pets: I just rescued an 85-pound boxer, 2 years old, from SecondChanceBoxer.com. I’ve been waiting two years to adopt. His name is Teddy. I have a 15-year-old Shi Tzu named Polonius, and a cat named Luna that my daughter picked up at a riding lesson. We also have Fergie the hamster. We have a regular zoo!

How long have you lived in Newtown? We built our house and moved in October of 1999.

What do you like to do in your free time? I do like to cook for fun. I go to Amagansett in Long Island, to the beaches. I do a lot of hiking and walking with the dogs and I read a lot. I write for fun, too. I love to spend time with my friends and family.

Do you have a favorite book? I love The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It’s about the law of attraction, that what you put out in the universe, you get back. And I love Peaceful Touching: Practicing the Art of Mindful Living. I’m also looking forward to reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I like nonfiction books mostly, and books that teach you how to take control of your life.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Anywhere where it is 80 degrees when it’s zero degrees here! My last trip was to St John in the Virgin Islands.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I like so much stuff, but it wouldn’t be Newtown without the people who live here. The people are great. I love the history of this town, too. And the location is great. New York City, the beaches, Westchester — where I grew up — and the mountains all are just about an hour from here.

Who do you most admire? I saw the move Julie and Julia and I was really inspired by Julia Child. She trained at the Cordon Bleu in France when she was in her 40s and wrote her first cookbook. I can relate to wanting to reinvent yourself and I was really impressed by her.

Do you have a personal philosophy? It doesn’t matter what happens to you in life, it’s what you do with it.

What makes you laugh? I make myself crack up at least once a day. I find humor in the mundane. I’m the funniest person I know, and I appreciate it when others have a quick wit.
