Occupation: I am the owner/director of MSR Music, an independent classical record label based here in Newtown.

Family: I have been married to Anne for 11 years. We have two children, Robert, 8, a student at Head O’ Meadow, and Lily, 5, who is in kindergarten there. My wife is a psychotherapist. My son studies piano and is in the Newtown Babe Ruth League, and Lily is into gymnastics. My mother, also Anne, lives in Sandy Hook.

Pets: We have a pet cat, Tulip. We just adopted her from the Danbury Animal Welfare League on the first day of this spring. She’s a new member of the family. I always thought I didn’t like cats, but now we’re really best friends.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived here about a year and a half. We moved here — including my mother — from Larchmont, N.Y.

What do you like to do in your free time? I do a lot of gardening — flowers, lawn, shrubbery. I’m a band musician and play with the Westchester Symphonic Winds. I play the euphonium. It looks like a small tuba. I do some bicycling and very often, I play catch with my son.

Do you have a favorite musical artist? Ernest Ansermet. He was the conductor of the L’orchestre de la Suisse Romande. I have great reverence for what he did as a conductor. What this guy did on records really shaped my musical interests.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Cape Cod. We have a family house in East Orleans, so we go there a lot. The Cape is quiet, the people are welcoming, and the pace beckons relaxation. I’ve been going there for 12 years, and I love it.

What is the best thing about Newtown? It seems to be a stronghold of traditional values, and decent, welcoming people. There is such a moral core here that is absent in so many other places. When we first were looking in Newtown we drove up Church Hill Road to the flagpole and I said, “This place has a soul. I can feel it.” I feel like I’ve come home here.

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would you choose? My father, Arthur. He died in 1990. I was too young to appreciate my dad. Now I think, “Gee, what I could learn from him.”

Do you have a personal philosophy? I believe you’re always supposed to push yourself. I started saying this in college: Know your limit and then exceed it. I even had it translated by the head of the Latin department, and it is not unusual for me to sign something and add “Fines facultatis cognitos transgredere.” I recently found out it was not translated properly, but I’m okay with that. It has served me well all these years.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I do, actually. I’m a Trekkie. I could watch episode after episode after episode of Star Trek.
