Occupation: I am an in-home day care provider. I’ve done this for 19 years.

Family: My daughter, Jamie, who just married in May. She is 23 years old. Emily is 20 and Whitney is 16. She is a junior at Newtown High School.

Pets: We have our new Penny, who is 10 months old. She is a cockerbichon, a cross between a cocker spaniel and a bichon frise. She’s wonderful.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I have live in Newtown 19½ years.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m very busy. I do sewing and crafts. I used to make lampshades. In Maine, I used to have my own shop. I had the shop, Glory Bee on Route 6, too, with Maureen LaPac, from about 1999 to 2004. We specialized in primitive and historical American crafts. Now I’m doing decorating for both home and commercial spaces. I’m designing a wine bar for a new place in Southbury, the Grape Escape. And I’m taking a real estate course. I like to go dancing on weekends to relax and have taken dance classes in hula dancing and salsa.

Do you have a favorite musician? I love, love, love music. I like so many bands and I have gone to a lot of concerts. I saw Joe Cocker once and I just loved him. The Ives Center is the perfect place to see a concert.

Do you have a favorite book? The Chicken Soup series is so inspiring. It’s just short little stories you can eat right up.

Where do you like to go on vacation? I have a place down in Jacksonville, Fla. I try to get down there a couple of times a year to visit a friend and get away.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I like that it’s very quiet. I love the old homes and when the Main Street homes are open at Christmas. I like the garden tours in the summer. We’ve had a lot of good luck with the schools here, too. My girls have all had some really nice teachers.

If you could meet any famous person, who would it be? Oprah. She’s someone I’d like to sit down and have tea with. She seems to know the ups and downs of life.

Do you have a personal philosophy? You’ve got to keep a positive outlook. Then your eyes will be open to see that the people who come into your life are there to help you through the sad times and good times.

Where would you like to be in 20 years? Who knows? I just want to try so much. I’ve built one house and I enjoyed that. I’d like to build several more — in between everything else I’m trying. Life is too short.
