Occupation: I am a geriatric care manager. My business, Growing Options, has its home office here in Sandy Hook. I do elderly assessments and determine the needs of the elderly or people with disabilities or special needs. I do crisis management and make recommendations. Often, elderly people don’t have a nearby relative to help or to respond to emergencies, so we provide those services 24 hours a day. My main goal is to keep the elderly home successfully and to keep them out of the emergency room. I work one-on-one with my clients.

Family: My husband, David, and I have been married five years. I have five children, Jaci, Kyle, Travis, Carly, and Troy, and one stepson, Austin.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved to Sandy Hook just six months ago, from Fairfield. We live in a log cabin in the woods.

What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy the outdoors, especially boating, and I’m into fitness. I enjoy writing, too. I have a blog, growingoptions.wordpress.com. I do a ton of research in my free time, keeping current on all of the issues that affect my patients.

Do you have a favorite place for outdoor activities? We’ve always been on the Long Island Sound for boating. And we’re on nine acres now, and have ATV trails on them that we use. My husband is into ATVs, and I ride, too.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? My last big trip was when my husband and I got married in Alaska. Hiking on the glaciers was a highlight of that trip, but the getting married part was pretty big, too.

What is the best thing about Newtown? It’s a very quaint town, especially Sandy Hook. Where we live, it’s very peaceful. What I do for work is very intense and has long hours, so coming home to our log cabin is a wonderful retreat.

If you could spend the day with someone famous, who would you choose? Ekert Tolle. He wrote A New Earth and The Power of Now. He is very, very spiritual. He addresses living in the “now” and growing and learning from experiences.

Do you have a personal philosophy? You can’t fix the past. You can learn from the past and use it for the future.

What is the most important lesson you have learned? You need to know that there are two sides to all stories, and there really is no room for judgment.
