Children kicked soccer balls while adults kicked back, listening to music and eating barbeque, the evening of August 6, at NYA Sports & Fitness Center's Second Annual Fountain Fest.

Fountain Fest was a "simple, family-friendly night" to bring together the Newtown and NYA communities, NYA Executive Director Nick Hoffman said.

The event was admission-free but food and drinks were available for purchase from Hog Wild BBQ and Samuel Adams Beer. The entertainment for the evening included a performance by the band Alternate Universe, as well as a performance from Natalie Barden and Rick Irving. Some hits performed between the two acts included "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse, "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, and "Girl Crush" by Little Big Town.

In addition to the music, guests could access NYA's turf field and basketball courts for pick-up games of soccer and basketball. Children also enjoyed taking turns going down NYA's inflatable slide.

Attendees were also able to try their hand at the circus arts. John Wisnieff, the founder of Newtown Juggling & Circus Arts Club, brought flower sticks, gymnastics ribbons, and various items for juggling that people could try using.

The night raised about $4,500 for NYA's Impact Fund, Mr Hoffman said, through items such as signed sports memorabilia and skiing lift tickets that were auctioned off in a silent auction. Uses for the Impact Fund include providing academic and organizational scholarships for children and financially supporting NYA's SPARK Afterschool Program, Mr Hoffman said.
