NMS Students Honored

As State’s Top Scholar Leaders

Two Newtown Middle School students, Ridhi Sahani and Matthew Mossbarger, were recently recognized as the state’s top Scholar Leaders at the 2010 Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) Scholar Leader Banquet sponsored by the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts McDonald’s Owner/Operator Association along with middle school students from Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Easton, Fairfield, Greenwich, Norwalk, Redding, Riverside, Shelton, Stratford, Trumbull, Weston, and Westport.

“McDonald’s is proud to partner with CAS to recognize the state’s top middle school students with the 2010 CAS Scholar Leader Award. McDonald’s recognizes the impressive achievements of these students in both school and in their local communities and congratulates each and every winner,” said Jim McGarry, a local McDonald’s owner/operator and president of the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts McDonald’s Owner/Operator Association.

The Connecticut Scholar Leader Awards is the largest program of its type in the state. The award is presented to one male and one female student in each middle school whose record of academic achievement and service have been truly exemplary, whose personal standards and accomplishments are a model for others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self discipline, honesty, and courage.

The Connecticut and Western Massachusetts Owner/Operator Association is comprised of local McDonald’s restaurant owners who are community and industry leaders. For more information, visit www.moms.mcconnecticut.com or www.moms.mcmassachusetts.com

The Connecticut Association of Schools (formerly the Connecticut Association of Secondary Schools) was created in 1953 through the merger of the Connecticut Association of Secondary School Principals and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference. CAS is an organization of member schools, united to serve the needs of the students and schools of Connecticut in all areas of inter-school activity. The Association today represents more than 1,000 of Connecticut’s schools.
