Nighthawk Gymnasts Participate in Class L Championships

Newtown High School's gymnastics team scored 124.125 points to earn seventh place in the Class L state championship meet, at Pomperaug High in Southbury, on February 27. Greenwich, with 140.425, won the event.

Maddie Jannott, Ally Kenny, Cam Vazquez, and Sarah MacMullan competed all around for Newtown. Laura Hornby competed on floor, Alana O'Donnell on floor and vault, Olivia Brosnan on the uneven bars and balance beam, Sammi Olah on beam, Amanda Brinkmann on vault, and Liz Marcinek on bars.

Vazquez scored an 8.25 on vault, a 7.4 on beam, and an 7.95 on floor. Jannott had an 8.1 on vault, a 7.2 on bars, an 8.15 on beam, and an 8.05 on floor. Kenney had an 8 on vault, an 8 on bars, an 8.375 on beam, and an 8.3 on floor. MacMullan scored a 7.8 on vault, a 7 on bars, and a 7.4 on beam. Brosnan had a 7 on bars, and O'Connell scored a 7.15 on floor.

Up next is the state open, Saturday, March 5, at New Milford High. Kenny qualified for the open and will compete on the uneven bars, and Jannott also qualified for the open and will compete on beam.
