NHS Production Of 'City Of Angels' Nominated For State Musical Theater Awards

Newtown High School’s musical production of City of Angels, which ran March 19-22, has received 14 nominations for the Annual Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards.

According to Jane Matson, the production’s director and the high school’s choral director, a gala will be held at the Palace Theater in Waterbury on June 1. The award winners will be announced during the gala. Newtown students are among the multiple performers scheduled for the event.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the students to be able to share their love of theater with their peers throughout Connecticut,” Ms Matson said on Thursday, May 21, in an e-mail.

City of Angels has been nominated in the following categories:

*Outstanding Costuming Achievement (Bonnie Johnson);

*Outstanding Lighting Design Achievement (Stef Carr);

*Outstanding Set Design Achievement (Abby Callery, Jane Matson, Bill Mangold);

*Outstanding Sound Design (Tim Mammen);

*Outstanding Direction (Jane Matson);

*Outstanding Music Direction (Brett Boles);

*Outstanding Orchestra;

*Outstanding Leading Actor (Kyle Watkins);

*Outstanding Supporting Actress (Emily Crebbin);

*Outstanding Chorus;

*Outstanding Featured Performer (Aimee Talbot);

*Outstanding Ensemble Group (The Angel City Singers);

*Outstanding Lobby Display; and

*Outstanding Production of The Year.

Newtown High School’s musical production of City of Angels ran from Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, March 22, with one cancellation, due to snow, on Friday, March 20. 

Newtown High School students Emily Crebbin and Kyle Watkins, during dress rehearsal on March 17 for the NHS production of City of Angels. Both have been nominated for their roles in the production for the Annual Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards.
