Newtown Forest Association (NFA), a private land trust, has issued a call for volunteers. Enjoy time exploring NFA properties, which members inspect annually.

"We do these inspections for many reasons, but mostly to help us preserve the properties we own in their original state," according to a recent press release.

Join a brief training session on Saturday, November 4, at 11:30 am, at NFA headquarters, Holcombe Hill Preserve, 65 Great Hill Road. A light brunch will be served prior to field inspections.

Site inspections consist of walking a property, filling out a form, and taking a few pictures. The properties range in size and difficulty, so all levels of hiking ability can participate.

Volunteering for NFA is a opportunity to give back to the community, meet new friends, and hike new properties. Those interested do not need to be an NFA member to participate.

Volunteers who cannot make the group training can arrange for individual training, and those unable to complete the inspections on November 4 can complete them at their convenience. Anyone interested in volunteering for property inspections can RSVP to harveypessin@gmail.com.

Newtown Forest Association is the oldest private land trust organization in Connecticut. Members are dedicated to preserving forests, agricultural lands, nature preserves, watersheds and other open space lands in Newtown, for the ongoing benefit of the plant, animals and residents of Newtown.

NFA is Newtown's largest private land owner and owns and protects more than 1,300 acres. The association is independent from town government, and relies primarily on private donations. Learn more about the NFA at newtownforestassociation.org.
