Next SCAN Program: Painting A Figure Within A Landscape With Pastels

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will welcome Clayton Buchanan of Newburgh, N.Y., as its guest artist on Wednesday, July 26, at 1:30 pm.

Mr Buchanan will demonstrate painting a figure within a landscape, using pastel.

The program will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. Admission is free.

Mr Buchanan's paintings have been exhibited in galleries throughout the Northeast, including The Guild of Boston Artists, and Hudson Valley Gallery, James Cox Gallery, River Winds Gallery, and Flat Iron Gallery, all in New York. He has also had solo shows at Kent Art Association, Hudson Valley Gallery, and Karpeles Library Manuscript Museum.

His memberships include Pastel Society of America, Connecticut Pastel Society, Guild of Boston Artists, and Kent Art Association.

Mr Buchanan's works are in private and corporate collections, including work commemorating the 100th anniversary of Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, N.Y. He has done portrait commissions throughout the Northeast and South, and is currently conducting demonstrations, workshops, and classes.

Mr Buchanan's recent awards include CPS Founder's Award, Renaissance in Pastel National Juried Show, 2015; M.H. Hurlimann-Armstrong PSA Award, Pastel Society of America, 2015; Best of Show, Kent Art Association President Show, 2015; and Award of Excellence for Pastels, Kent Art Association Spring Juried Show, 2014.
