Newtown Residents Included In Annual WCSU Senior Portfolio Exhibition

DANBURY - A group of 28 Western Connecticut State University undergraduate art majors who are candidates this year for the Bachelor of Arts degree are presenting their works in the 2018 Senior Portfolio Exhibition. The collection is on view in the Art Gallery at the Visual and Performing Arts Center, on the university's Westside campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension, until May 6.

The WCSU Department of Art presents the Senior Portfolio Exhibition each spring as a capstone experience for students pursuing the BA in art in one of four areas of concentration: graphic design, illustration, photography, and studio art in painting. This year's exhibition features nine art majors with a concentration in graphic design, ten in illustration, seven in photography, and two in studio art in painting.

Among those with works on view this year are Newtown residents Phoebe Hart (studio art in painting) and Patrick Mengler (photography).

The following 2018 BA in Art candidates are also showing selected works:

Illustration seniors Justina Carneiro of New Milford, Branden Heap of Oakville, Jessica La Rock of Darien, Randy Lagana of Brookfield, Rhys Morrill of Danbury, Ryan Provenzano of Danbury, Rachel Rossier of Norwich, Matthew Stephen of New Milford, Alexis Surovy of Southbury, and Claudasha Weaver of Danbury;

Photography seniors Lorenzo Ash of New Milford, Mary Casey of Troy, N.Y., Ashley Dickan of Katonah, N.Y., Stephanie Johnson of Bristol, Andrea Ojeda of Stamford, and Karina Sorensen of Oakville; and

Studio Art in Painting senior Amanda Megill of Northford.

Admission to view exhibition is free. The gallery is open for viewing from noon to 4 pm Monday through Thursday, and from 1 to 4 pm Friday through Sunday.
