Newtown Middle School Honors Students In Awards Ceremony

Although temperatures were cool on May 31, it was better than rain for the crowd of middle school students who filled the front lawn of the school for an awards assembly to honor their peers for the year’s accomplishments.

The following awards were given out to students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Most eighth grade awards will be given out during the moving up ceremony set for June 22.

Parent Recognition Award – Diane Malloy and Laura Warren.

Voice of Newtown Middle School, Morning Announcers – Katherine Danzinger, Kathryn Fullman, Sarah Holroyd, Danielle Iodice, Christopher Jacob, Caitlin Malloy, Lauren Pade, and Catherine Stickles.

Weather Reporter – Alex Zachos.

PTA President’s Award – Anna Wiedemann.

Doug Jeffrey Award for Literary Magazine – Emily Koh and Lauren Reed.

Art Production for Literary Magazine – Allison Hornak and Jacqueline Gutbrod.

Roseanne Brown Award – Stephanie MacKay.

Each cluster gave out subject awards to students. Art awards were given to the following students: sixth grade – Matt Biscoe, Kellyanne Murphy, Sean O’Connell, Katie Orlando, Megan Petruney, Mariale Renna, Olga Virgalla; seventh grade – Alex Goodkowsky, William Jacob, Peter Kim, Kris Kunkle, Gillian Omalyev, Erica Sampson, Matti Toikka; Art Enrichment – Kaitlin Sullivan and Elisa VanBuskirk; eighth grade – Kelly Bernardi, Hadrian Kim, Krishna Patel, Alicia Rogers, Melissa Russell, Jenny Urfer; Art Enrichment – Maggie Boushell, Jackie Gutbrod, Allison Hornak, and Caitlin Malloy.

The middle school students were also given Rotation Awards for the nine-week programs of computer, health, home economics, industrial arts, and Project Adventure. The following students were honored: sixth grade – Wilson Davidson, Emily Fiorey, Kevin Gilroy, Tucker Kass, Stephen Kramer, Erin McDonald, Hilary Moskowitz, Scott Nichols, Kristi Nowak, Emily Oliver, Sara Peters, Jessica Shepard; seventh grade – Alexa Feldman, Peter Kim, Krys Kunkle, Lauren Reagle, Melissa Shepard, Eddie Small, Zach Silver, Matti Toikka, Rachel Warburton, Kim Wilkins, Katie Winkler; eighth grade – Erik Bagger, Quincy Blanchard, Colin Cieniawa, Kate Fielding, Danielle Iodice, Sarah Hemingway, Josh Rouse, Matt Schmitt, Amelia Shwartz.

World Language Awards were given to: French, seventh grade – Lillian Campbell and Sarah Gutbrod; Spanish, seventh grade – Brandon Leon-Gambetta, Tyler Nicoll, Stephen Petrovich, and Thomas Wilson.

Physical Education awards were given to: sixth grade – Joe DeVellis, Tucker Kass, Darcy Fiscella, Thomas Hutchinson, Ryan McGrath, Shayna Mesko, Meredith Palo, Sara Peters; seventh grade – Emily Fields, Casey Frobey, Tara Gaston, Rose Jackman, Jeffrey Lipnick, Chris Nuelle, Colin O’Connor, Michelle Rastelli, James Wiedemann; eighth grade – Mary Anders, Wendy Borst, Tom Cuccio, Kaelyn Eckenrode, Sean LaPorta, Brian Miles, Josh Rouse, Tara Ryan, Anthony Santella.

Volleyball awards were given to Anthony Klabonski, Nathaniel Basch-Gould, and Mike Mangarella.

Bicycle Club awards were presented to Jim Leebaert and Gillian Omalyev.

Drama Club award recipients included Karoline Engel, Jeff LeVasseur, and Stephen Petrovich.

Tara Gaston received the Newspaper Club award.

Shannon Bell was presented the Math Team award.

Yearbook Committee recipients were Jessica Budnick, Tyler vonOy, Maegan Tannenbaum, and Kyle Lyddy.

The Student Tech Team Award was given to Dan Furphy.
