Newtown Historical Society Is Preparing

For Its Annual Antiques Show

Newtown Historical Society has announced the details of its 19th Annual Antiques Show. This year’s event will be Sunday, March 7, from 10 am to 4 pm, at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown.

Select antiques dealers will display a variety of country furniture, textiles, silver, lamps, baskets, jewelry, dolls, china, glass, maps and other ephemera.

Among the dealers presenting diverse merchandise is Caroline Dirsa of Orange, whose booth is always popular with her brass candlesticks, wooden bowls, and primitive small furniture.

Bill Barile of East Hartford will bring a wide array of prints, and Dave and Sue Ryan of Harwinton whose tools, primitives, country kitchen and sewing items have been featured in Martha Stewart Living, will also be participating.

Joan Cole will bring a collection of glass, china, and smalls; Steve Balser is returning with an array of primitive furniture and accessories; Louis Beauchamp will be back with his booth of silver, lamps and decorative smalls; and Shelley Smith will be in her booth with Stieff animals, bears, dollhouse miniatures, holiday items, and a child sized painted dry sink.

From country to formal, furniture to miniatures, this year’s show promises to offer one of the best selections of any area antiques event.

Admission is $5, with the proceeds benefiting Newtown Historical Society’s public programs as well as preservation of the Matthew Curtiss House Museum and its collections.

The circa 1750 Curtiss House, located across the street from the antiques show, will be open during show hours for free tours by costumed guides. The museum maintains atmospheric 18th Century room settings and artifacts of later date that represent the manner in which generations would have passed through the house and added to its contents.

Call the society for further information, 426-5937.
