Newtown Continuing Education continues to have limited openings available in the following classes. Contact Newtown Continuing Education at 203-426-1787, 9 am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday, for further information on dates, times, and location, or visit newtowncontinuinged.orgYoga Stretch With Missy - An eight-class course offered on Wednesdays, starting January 3, $89. Unwind from a stress-filled day with a relaxing evening of yoga. Transform from tense and tight to mellow and limber. This yoga practice is designed to lengthen and stretch breath. Take the time and truly be in the moment. Wear sweatpants and bring an exercise/yoga mat. A yoga strap and yoga block are optional.Belly Dancing - A six-class offering on Tuesdays, starting January 23, $69. Strengthen the core and sculpt the trunk, arms, and legs while learning the basics of Middle-Eastern belly dance. Basic choreography along with pop music and traditional Middle-Eastern music will have students dancing away the calories. Beautiful hip scarves will be provided. Wear workout clothes.Beginner Knitting Circle, Daytime - For ages 18 and up, an eight-class course offered on Wednesdays, starting January 10, $129. This course is for those that have always wanted to knit, but did not know where to start or for those that need to brush up on the basics. Learn to cast on, knit, purl and more, creating a fashionable project to start. Knitting is a great hobby that can be transported with the knitter. Knit at sports events, waiting rooms, etc, using snippets of time.Learn about different fibers, try out different types and sizes of needles, and more. Crochet basics will also be taught. Students need to bring in a skein of bulky-weight yarn of their choice (such as Lion Wool-Ease Thick N Quick), and US size 11, 13 or 15 knitting needles to start. The class will be held at the Teen Center.Beginner Knitting Circle, Evening -For ages 18 and up, an eight-class course offered Thursdays, starting January 11, $129. An evening version of the Beginner Knitting Circle, Daytime, see the description above. The class will be held at Newtown Middle School.Intermediate Knitting Circle, Daytime - For ages 18 and up, an eight-class course, starting January 10. The class is for those who can cast on and knit garter stitch, and are ready to build more skills (or have completed the beginner course). Several projects will be created starting with an "oh so cute" hat that can be made in sizes from children to adults, as well as a seamless project "knitting in the round" on circular needles. In this comprehensive, step-by-step, fun class, students will learn to read patterns, check gauge, master more difficult stitches (including cables), and more. Students need to bring in size 10 (longer length preferable) straight needles and one skein (150 yards) of worsted weight yarn of their choice to start. Other materials needed will be discussed in class. Students can also bring independent projects for help as well. The class will be held at the Teen Center.Intermediate Knitting Circle, Evening - For ages 18 and up, an eight-class course, starting January 10, $129. An evening version of the Intermediate Knitting Circle, Daytime, see the description above. The class will be held at Newtown Middle School.Cardio Calorie Blast - A six-class course offered on Tuesdays, starting January 23, $69. Join this class to get fit, have fun, and relieve stress. Increase energy with this uplifting and upbeat class that provides three workouts in one. This efficient and effective workout will include aerobics, toning exercises, and yoga stretching. Students will utilize the latest fitness principles to maximize calorie and fat burning, in addition to ways to increase the intensity of exercise. All levels of fitness are welcome. Low-impact, low-intensity exercises and modifications to exercises will be demonstrated. Students should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Bring bottled water, an exercise or yoga mat, and a pair of hand weights (3 lbs for beginners and 5 lbs or more for advanced). The class will be held at Reed Intermediate School.Totally Toned - A six-class course offered on Tuesdays, starting January 23, $69. Join this class to tone up and have fun. Each class will include a warm-up, toning exercises utilizing hand held weights or the body's own resistance, and stretching. This course will help students tone up and increase their metabolism by increasing muscle cells. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Please bring bottled water, an exercise or yoga mat, and a pair of hand weights to each class (3 lbs for beginners and 5 lbs or more for advanced).
