Musicals At Richter Announces 2007 Auditions

Musicals at Richter (MAR) will hold its 2007 season auditions for high school, college and adult performers on March 30 and April 1 at The Melrose School, 120 Federal Hill Road, in Brewster, N.Y., just a few minutes from Danbury’s Richter Park.

A separate children’s audition will be held for young performers on Saturday, March 31.

The 23rd mainstage season will feature three Tony Award-winning musicals: Fiddler on the Roof, June 21 to July 7, to be directed by Donald Birely of New York City; On the Twentieth Century, July 12-28, being directed by MAR founder and president Brad Blake of Danbury; and Oklahoma! August 2-18, also directed by Mr Blake. In addition, the daytime children’s play series Fairy Tale Theater will feature four hour-long shows adapted and directed by Elyse Jasensky of Danbury.

Rounding out the 2007 offerings is Richter Rising Stars, a select group of performers age 21 and under who will perform material from recent Broadway shows, television musicals and motion pictures at Richter Park and other area venues.  Alicia Dempster of Danbury will direct and choreograph.

Open audition times for high school (16 and up), college and adult performers are Friday, March 30, from 7 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, March 31, from 2 to 6 pm; and Sunday, April 1, from 1 to 5 pm.

Separate auditions for children and youth performers will be held Saturday, March 31, from 10 am to 1 pm only. At that time, casting will be considered for the Fairy Tale Theater company (ages 7-15); ensemble roles in Fiddler on the Roof and Oklahoma! and for younger members of Richter Rising Stars.

Children auditioning for the musicals should be prepared to sing, read and dance as indicated below; Fairy Tale Theater candidates do not have to sing, but should be prepared to read from a script. Performers ages 15 and under must attend this Saturday call if they wish to be considered for any of these roles.

All those auditioning should bring a picture and resume if available, prepare two Broadway show tunes (uptempo and ballad), bring sheet music in their key, and be ready to sing only their best 16 measures if necessary. An accompanist will be provided.

Auditionees should also be prepared to learn a short dance combination and to read from the script if asked. These positions are unpaid and all roles are open.

Show descriptions and cast breakdowns can be found on the theater’s website, MusicalsAtRichter.org.

Please note there are no children’s roles in On the Twentieth Century; all performers for that show must be age 16 or older.

Now in its 23rd season, Musicals at Richter is Connecticut’s longest-running outdoor theater with over 65 productions to its credit since 1985. The Richter Arts Center stage has served as a professional springboard for hundreds of up-and-coming performers. Musicals at Richter is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
