RIDGEFIELD — Summertime at The Ridgefield Library means a new Hollister film schedule — so moviegoers, listen up.

Instead of the library’s twice-a-month matinee and evening screenings (which will resume in September), the library will offer single-shot, evening-only shows in July and August.

The excitement will begin on Tuesday, July 24, at 7 pm, when the library salutes the most patriotic month of the year with a screening of The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson and Joely Richardson. Audience members will not only see Gibson’s $25 million dollar performance (the latest milestone for actors’ salaries in Hollywood), but also experience an action-packed epic tale of freedom fighting and family, one that Hollywood spared no expense on.

Then on Tuesday, August 14, at 7 pm, mouths will water when the Culinary Cinema Series returns to the library with a program entitled “Hot Chocolat!”

Just 48 lucky ticket holders will be able to experience an evening so sweet it will melt in your mouth. The evening will begin with a special screening of the movie Chocolat.

There is eye candy galore in this cast: Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp are delicious together, while Lena Olin and Dame Judi Dench give absolutely delectable performances in this star-studded story of a charming chocolatier’s arrival to a small and provincial French village. There, she and her daughter open a chocolate shop and, much like lifting the lid off of Pandora box, all sorts of mischief follows.

The bittersweet taste-teasing will end with relieving mouth-pleasing when the Culinary Cinema’s “Hot Chocolat!” sates its audience with a merciful smorgasbord of chocolate following the screening.

Reservations can be made at 203-438-2282. Tickets for the August event must be signed out and picked up at the Circulation Desk by August 1.
