Middle Gate Elementary School hosted its annual STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Night on Thursday, March 9. The evening event had third and fourth grade students and their parents make their way between stations to complete different activities.

Middle Gate math/science specialist Jill Bracksieck announced the start of the event over the school's loudspeaker system as families made their way to activities. In the school science lab, Ms Bracksieck said, the students would find straw and other materials for a group building project. Throughout the course of the night, according to Ms Bracksieck, students would take turns to build something from the materials.

"Our final creations will be even better if we plan and speak to each other while we work," said Ms Bracksieck.

The theme for this year's STEM Night was "Building and Designing," and each of the activities were centered around the theme.

Activities included challenges to build a range of designs with blocks, using recycled items to build something new, building animals using packing peanuts and a wet sponge, and building a bridge out of planks.

"We are excited to see what you create," said Ms Bracksieck at the start of the night.
