DANBURY — Colon cancer is largely preventable, treatable, and beatable through regular screenings, a healthy lifestyle, and expert clinical care. Find out more about “Colon Cancer — The Preventable Disease” at the Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meeting on Tuesday, March 8, from 7 to 8:30 pm, in the Danbury Hospital auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue.

Featured physician speakers include a colorectal surgeon and a gastroenterologist.

Also, as part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Danbury Hospital will begin streaming the video “Screening Saves Lives: A Lighter Look at Colonoscopy” in March on the hospital’s website, www.DanburyHospital.org. The video link is available on the right side of the website’s home page.

The purpose of the video is to help patients overcome the fear of colonoscopies. The video provides information about the importance of having a colonoscopy to screen for colon and rectal cancers. It gives an overview as to what to expect when a colonoscopy is scheduled at Danbury Hospital and includes a look at the endoscopy suite.

Viewers can also learn more about the Connecticut debut of Coco, The Colossal Colon (a 40-foot long, 4-foot high replica of a colon) to promote digestive health.

Danbury Hospital brought The Colossal Colon to Danbury last June as part of its Colorectal Health Expo at Danbury Fair Mall. During the expo, an estimated 1,000 people stopped by to learn more about the signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer and how to prevent it.
