Masons Install New Officers

Hiram Lodge #18, a Masonic Lodge in Sandy Hook, installed its 2011 officers on Saturday, December 18.

The officers were joined by area town officials and officers of the Grand Lodge of the State of Connecticut including Past Grand Master George S. Greytak, Grand Junior Warden Simon R. LaPlace, and Grand Senior Deacon Thomas M. Maxwell II.

Hiram Lodge #18 will celebrate the 220th anniversary of its charter on January 14, 2011. Originally chartered in 1791, Hiram Lodge #18 has long been a part of Newtown’s history.

The new Master for 2011, Bill Hillman, said that the lodge has plans to be more active in community efforts including the Newtown Relay For Life, sponsoring CT CHIP (Child ID Program) events, food drives, and other charitable initiatives throughout the next year.

Freemasonry is the oldest fraternal organization in the world. It is dedicated to promoting improvement in the character of its members. A Mason is taught to be a good citizen, to be of good character, to care for those less fortunate, and to give back to his community.
