Margaret Kovachik

Margaret Norris Kovachik, 88, of Newtown died peacefully February 10, with her family by her side. She was born in Greenville, S.C., on October 11, 1928, to Bess and Andrew Norris, the youngest of four children (sister to Middleton, Jean, and Betty Ann).

Five of her children and their spouses, Carolyn and Mike Mandarano of Newtown, Kate and Dave Sulik of Shelton, Andy and Bev Kovachik of Monroe,; Ilona and Tony Palomba of Monroe, and Matt and Liz Kovachik of Mendham, N.J., survive Mrs Kovachik. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, who she loved very much, Greg and Jim Sulik; Andrew, Kelsey, and Cameron Kovachik; Garrett and Connor Mandarano; Emma, Lily, and Sam Palomba; and Maggie and Tommy Kovachik. Her husband, Albert George Kovachik, and her son, Albert George Kovachik, Jr, predeceased her.

She graduated from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C., in 1950, and moved to New Haven, where she met Albert. They were married in October 1952. She was a resident of Fairfield since 1956 before moving to Maplewood at Newtown in 2013.

Mrs Kovachik lived a long, full life and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank the staff at Maplewood for the friendship and devotion shown to Mrs Kovachik these past few years and to both Maplewood and Masonicare Hospice for their care and support during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mrs Kovachik's name to Operation Hope, at operationhope.org; or St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, at stjude.org.

Calling hours will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt Pleasant Road, Newtown, on Tuesday, February 14, from 4 to 7 pm.

A funeral service will be celebrated at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Wednesday, February 15 at 10 am.

Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
