To the Editor:

Families United in Newtown (FUN), a community recreational program for families in our area with special needs children, teens, and adults, sponsored their 5th Annual Benefit Concert Saturday, March 4, in the beautiful Congregational Church (thank you Steve Bennett and Vicki Truitt). Over 300 people boogied down and enjoyed a buffet, 70s-style meal. Food donations: Augie's, Biscotti Etc, Big Y, BJ's, Blue Colony, Butcher's Best, Capri, Caraluzzi's Market, Carminuccio's, Elmer's Diner, Foundry, John's Best, My Place, Newtown General Store, Oasis Gluten Free, Papa Al's, Pizza Palace, Portofino, ShopRite, Stop & Shop and Villa Restaurant. Over 60 NHS Honors Society students served our guests, decorated, ran the raffle/auction, and mentored children.

Many thanks to the 60 businesses (too many to print) that graciously donated ad spots, auction, and/or raffle items. We are so grateful for your support. Many thanks to our special guest performer, star pianist/vocalist and You Tube sensation from New Jersey, Jodi DiPiazza; Hafez Taghavi (music director); John Voket; Bill Van Gieson; Brendon Fox, Mark Swigart; and Robert Keagan (sound engineer) - in addition to 30 more extremely talented musicians that donated their time and talent for our cause.

Thank you Newtown Public Schools (and Dr Joseph Erardi), Jeff Tolson (NHS advisor) and the Newtown High School Technology Team; "Maggie"; Dawn Lipke; Lisa Bell; Nuelles; Laura Rothenhausen; Angela Brown; Beth Meszaros; Julia McClenathan; Lesley Troy; Ann Williams; Jessica Lyons; Erica Shaker; Fords; Southbury Printers; Margaret Bauman, neurologist; and the outstanding audience.

Thank you to everyone that supported our FUN event. It takes a community to support an Autism Awareness Benefit Concert. (Exciting 80s next year!)

Duane and Linda Jones, Founders of FUN,

in memory of their son, Tyler
