Police report they arrested an 18-year-old man on multiple criminal charges late on the night of Monday, January 22, following several local incidents.

Police received a report about 8:09 pm informing them that someone had entered an unlocked motor vehicle parked along Borough Lane and had stolen a credit card and a debit card from within the vehicle.

Police later learned that the stolen credit card had been used by someone to make purchases from four stores at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street: Yankee Wine & Spirits, CVS Pharmacy, Big Y supermarket, and Dunkin' Donuts.

Police said they obtained a video surveillance recording of a transaction and were able to identify the man in question as Michael Vanhavere-Bruno, 18, of no certain address.

At about 10:05 pm, police spotted Vanhavere-Bruno outside Barnwood Grill at 5 Queen Street and then investigated.

A search of Vanhavere-Bruno produced the items that were purchased at the stores and also the stolen credit card and debit card.

Police arrested Vanhavere-Bruno on charges of third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, illegal use of a credit card, and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Police held Vanhavere-Bruno overnight on $2,000 bail for an arraignment on January 23 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury. He pleaded not guilty to all charges in court. A judge released him from custody on a written promise to appear in court on February 9.
