Lyme Disease Documentary Screening At Local Library
Lyme Disease Documentary Screening At Local Library
EASTON â Under Our Skin, a dramatic tale of microbes, medicine, and money (which was recently screened at C.H. Booth Library), will be shown at Easton Public Library, 691 Morehouse Road, at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 11. This eye-opening film investigates the untold story of Lyme disease, one of the most misunderstood and controversial illnesses of present time.
Because the malady is hard to test accurately, thousands of people go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Their symptoms are thought to be caused by conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, autism, MS, and ALS. Often these patients are told that their symptoms are âall in their heads.â
Following the stories of patients and physicians as they battle for their lives and livelihoods, the film brings into focus a haunting picture of the national health care system and its ability to cope with this tick-borne illness. Â
âLyme disease is endemic in Connecticut and many Fairfield County residents suffer from this insidious illness,â said Easton Public Library Director Bernadette Baldino. âThe library is pleased to co-host the screening of this film, with the Fairfield County Municipal Deer Management Alliance, because Lyme disease is such an important issue in this area.â
Under Our Skin, which was an Audience Choice Award Finalist at the Tribeca Film Festival, will be shown in the libraryâs Community Room. Admission is free.
