Local Students Among 2003

National Piano Playing Audition Winners

Melanie Ann Curtis and Sean Kevin Elliott, both entering third grade at Sandy Hook School this fall, are among six area winners eligible for entry in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Teacher Division of the American College of Musicians. Their teacher, Archer Moffitt, is a member of the guild.

After winning the 2003 National Piano Playing Audition recently held in Fairfield, Melanie and Sean are striving for Pledges, Local, District, State, National or even International honors. These distinctions will be conferred according to the number of standard baroque, classic, romantic, and modern pieces chosen from the Masters of pianoforte literature each student can creditably perform in the presence of an imported examiner of note.

Each year, more than 120,000 piano pupils from across the United States participate in events held in more than 870 centers nationwide. Top winners will be certificated, given a gold or bronze embossed pin, and obtain one-year membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians and Piano Hobbyists of the World.

Begun at Hardin-Simmons University in 1929 in Abilene, Texas (the state in which headquarters are still maintained), rules and regulations are available on request by addressing Piano Guild, Box 1807, Austin, TX, 78767-1807.
