Standing in a line that wrapped around the building were hundreds of hungry guests waiting for dinner at the 30th annual LobsterFest at Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Company's firehouse on Riverside Road.

Boiled to a blistering red and soon landing on guests' plates next to buttered corn were more than 2,000 lobsters filling bellies again this year, with proceeds benefiting the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company. The funds will help the company pay for a new rescue truck.

In addition to the 2,050 lobsters, fire company members also cooked 700-plus pounds of steak, said LobsterFest Chair Anthony Capozziello. Drawing a large crowd for dinner, live music, and more, Mr Capozziello said both Friday and Saturday nights, June 9 and 10, were busy and well attended. Everything went smoothly, Ms Capozziello added.

This year was among the event's most profitable; 2013 was the largest.

Nearly selling out of all their food, he said, the potato salad, everything, was gone. Families danced past sunset to Midnight Rodeo on Friday and To The Max on Saturday. Enjoying Saturday's band were Cindy Ciaccia and Karen Dugan, with seats near the music.

Outside the firehouse the many fire trucks lined the sidewalk, as a stream of curious children crawled into the driver's seats for a look. Distracted by something more delicious was Krista Manka, eating a vanilla cone almost as quickly as it melted.

Seated at the one of many folding tables set up in the truck bays was Danielle Amaral, holding baby Mason Fontaine. Across the room and working steadily to keep up with the long line of guests were volunteers including Debbie Halstead and Christine O'Grady, filling dinner plates from a long buffet. Sue Shpunt and young Molly Fiorini also volunteered at the buffet.

Walking toward the tables, plates full, were Michelle Mcewan and her daughter Stephanie Balikowski. Ms Mcewan was enjoying her first time visiting the LobsterFest.

Behind the firehouse and helping to prepare food was Firefighter John Will, one of the three company members tasked with cooking up the weekend's lobsters, who noted the weekend's beautiful weather.
