To the Editor:

In response to published online on Monday, September 22, 2014:“Anti-Gun Violence Groups To Rally In Stamford,”

Why did I make arrangements for a babysitter, cook dinner during the day, and brave rush-hour traffic to hold up a sign in Stamford on last Tuesday? Well, Governor Chris Christie, of New Jersey, was back in our state to gladhand for gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley. Why does Mr Foley repeatedly choose to keep company with Gov Christie, a person who clearly does not value ordinary citizens’ quality of life (“Bridgegate” being one example)?

Like Chris Christie, Tom Foley is not above playing politics with people’s lives. Promising, that, if elected governor, he would repeal gun safety legislation passed in early 2013 by a bipartisan Legislature, Foley has stooped so low as to court the Corporate Gun Lobby in a state traumatized by gun violence against our most innocent citizens. Foley reinforced this partnership by accepting the endorsement of the Connecticut Citizens Defense League (CCDL), an extreme right-wing gun advocacy group.

Thanks to Governor Dannel Malloy’s leadership, Connecticut has the 2nd strongest gun laws in the country. He supports women’s safety with his proposal to prevent access to guns by anyone subject to a temporary restraining order. I thank Gov Malloy every time I read about a gun being taken from a domestic abuser, drop my child at school, and turn out the lights at night. He deserves re-election.
