Kids For Canines Celebrated Shelter Dogs Through Fundraiser
Face painting and projects centered around helping Newtownâs dog pound and its inhabitants, including decorating bandanas for dogs in the pound, took place during Kids For Canines Celebration Day Saturday, June 5, from 10:30 am until noon.
Kids For Canines is a St Rose of Lima School student effort to raise funds for Canine Advocates of Newtown (CAN) and the dog pound. Campaign coordinator Amy Sullivan was at the dog pound, providing face paint and overseeing the event.
Along with students members, Piggy (Ms Sullivanâs eyeless pug) was at the dog pound for the day. Piggy greeted eventgoers and Animal Control Officer Carolee Mason from his dog bed.
âHe is the trophy story of how you can adopt the dog that no one wants,â said Sullivan, before picking up a brush to paint Rose Whewayâs face. âHe is my inspiration.â
Donations were welcome during the event, and dog pound visitors had the chance to meet some of the dog poundâs current occupants, like Buster, who ventured outside to meet guests under the guidance of Kennel Keeper Laura Frattaroli.
