Merryhill Child Care Center Director Karen Tuller began her time at the center in 2001 as a preschool teacher. Now, as the director, she is marking her 15th year with the nonprofit organization. This article was updated to reflect where the Family Fun Fest & Craft Fair will be held.

When Ms Tuller began as a preschool teacher she said, her son, James, was a student. Ms Tuller, who lives in Southbury, became the interim director in 2005 before becoming the director officially that same year.

From her experience at the center, which is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Ms Tuller said one thing that makes Merryhill special is that families stay in contact, and a number of former students have returned to volunteer at the center. She also noted staff members tend to work at Merryhill for a long time.

"I feel very blessed to be a part of the Merryhill family. We have a strong sense of family here with the staff, board, and families that come here," said Ms Tuller.

The center marked its 25th anniversary of being open in Newtown in 2015. A Family Fun Fest & Craft Fair was held for the milestone, and Ms Tuller said it will be held at Newtown High School in 2017 as a fundraiser for the center, on May 21, from 10 am until 5 pm. The event will be free to attend and tickets will be sold for some activities for children. Food trucks, craft vendors, and more will also be available at the event.
