John "Jack" Metcalf, 58, of Newtown died unexpectedly on the evening of July 12 at Danbury Hospital, with his son, daughter, and son-in-law by his side. He was born December 10, 1958, in Danbury.

Mr Metcalf attended Newtown schools and devoted most of his short life to raising his two children.

His mother, Jill Metcalf; sister, Kelly Richardson, and her husband Brad; children, John Ryan and Marissa; granddaughter Savana Grace; son-in-law Todd Bolmer; and three nieces survive him.

His father, Chester "Chet" Metcalf, predeceased him.

Mr Metcalf was an avid NASCAR fan and a comedian of sorts, whose legacy was his ability to make people laugh. His greatest passion as of late was being the caretaker of his beloved granddaughter, and it brought more joy to his life than even he thought possible.

A Celebration of Life was conducted July 16 at VFW Post 308, Newtown, where memories of Mr Metcalf were shared among friends and family whose lives he touched.
