Jochen Deman, 82, of Arizona, formerly of Newtown, died peacefully April 3. He was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1967.

He worked as an aeronautical engineer for Avco Lycoming and, later in life, for Honeywell. He spent many happy years in Newtown riding and fox hunting with the Fairfield County Hounds, where he was whipper in under the tutelage of huntsman Rhoda Hopkins. After the passing of his wife, Mathilde, he moved to Phoenix, where he still enjoyed his horses and developed an interest in Native American history.

His daughter, Sigrun Morano; son-in-law, Christopher Morano; grandsons, Dylan and Justin Morano; and two brothers in Germany, Rainer and Knut Deman, survive him. Also surviving him are his companion, Margrit von Ruckteschell, and her daughter, Linda von Ruckteschell.
