Jeffrey’s Painting To Be Featured At Putting On The Dog IV

Putting on the Dog will return for a fourth year when Canine Advocates of Newtown hosts the fundraiser at Taunton Press on Saturday, October 3. The event will run from 5 to 9 pm and tickets are $40 per person ($30 for Canine Advocates members).

Guests will enjoy tasting wines, beers, and spirits, plus bountiful, savory hors d’oeuvres, and scrumptious desserts. In addition to the delicious trays donated by many area restaurants, there will be serving stations set up by Carminuccio’s, Side Street Café & Catering, and Andrea’s Bakery. Guests can sample numerous fine vintages, relax by the fireplace, chat with friends, listen to live music, and bid on silent auction items.

Among the items this year will be the original painting “J.J.’s Hot Date,” by the Newtown artist James Jeffrey.

Mr Jeffrey, who was one of two artists in “Past Due,” a presentation by himself and friend John Slaney that was presented at C.H. Booth Library earlier this year, has enjoyed drawing since he was a child. He did not become as focused on painting until later, when he began exploring the masters such as Cezanne, Munch, Hopper, et al, on his own.

Silent auction items will include a tree delivered and planted by Ground Crew, a complete will package by Attorney Eric DaSilva, a round of golf from Newtown Country Club, round trip limousine transportation to New York City, and original jewelry, paintings, portrait sessions, and framed photographs.

Tom Novak, owner of Your Healthy Pet, will be performing live music.

Proceeds will benefit the Canine Advocates fund for Newtown Pound veterinary expenses.

Tickets may be purchased at Yankee Wine & Liquor (where Mr Jeffrey’s featured painting is also on view), Stop & Save Liquor, Prudential Realty, and Your Healthy Pet; or mail a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your check to Canine Advocates of Newtown, PO Box 236, Newtown CT 06470.
