The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Christine Ivers painting a nocturnal cityscape in pastel at its next meeting, on Wednesday, May 8, at 7:30 pm.

The meeting and program will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited to attend, free of charge.

Watch the night come to life with the glowing lights and reflections of the city when pure pigment is applied to Ms Ivers’s handmade textured boards.

The artwork of Christine Ivers has been described as vibrant and textural with dynamic light. The effects she achieves can run the gamut between high contrast and a gentle softness that brings to life the paintings she creates. From the contrasts of night’s darkness and glowing lights in what she calls her “nightscapes,” to the subtle play of colors filtered through nature’s atmosphere in her landscape paintings, Ms Ivers paints with a freedom that is easily seen in the strokes of pastel as well as in her oils.

Teaching is all part of this artist’s life. She dedicates herself to helping others hone their talents in order to better express themselves through whatever medium they prefer to work in. She travels nationally to share her skills through workshops.

A semi-retired advertising professional, Ms Ivers not only teaches painting but also helps artists to become better acquainted with the digital revolution that has evolved over the last decade.

Christine Ivers is also a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, Allied Artists of America, an Elected Artist Member at Lyme Art Association and Salmagundi Club. She has won numerous awards and has paintings in private collections throughout New England.

Reservations for SCAN programs are not needed but additional information is available by calling 203-426-6654.

Attendees of SCAN’s next program will be able to watch the night come to life with the glowing lights and reflections of the city when pure pigment is applied by Christine Ivers to her handmade textured boards. The free program will be at Newtown Meeting House on May 8. Shown here is a work by Ms Ivers, called “As If By Chance.”
