Newtown Senior Center hosted an Intergenerational Fun with Children event on Thursday, July 21.

Barbara Onorato, Candide Slinko, and MaryAnn Posser volunteered to help more than 20 kids from The Children's Adventure Center do an arts and crafts project.

Using cotton balls, paper plates, glue sticks, and strips of multicolored paper, the children created beautiful rainbows.

Marilyn Place, who is the director of the Senior Center, explained that they have been partnering with the Children's Adventure Center in different ways for about 30 years.

In the 1980s, the Senior Center and Children's Adventure Center would have holiday gatherings together. The seniors would dress as elves and Mr and Mrs Santa, while the kids would sing and put on skits.

Then in the 1990s, they started incorporating tea party events for grandmothers and grandchildren.

Now, the Senior Center and Children's Adventure Center have a monthly reading program and craft class.

Ms Place feels that it is beneficial for both groups because it "brings natural laughter and joy. Children are very special, and it's enjoyable for those who partake."
