Shelton-based Humanity Home Care LLC celebrated its grand opening on the road July 22 with an outdoor family festival called Humanity To A Community at VFW Post 308.For more information about Humanity Home Care LLC, visit humanityhomecarellc.com, call 203-513-8639, or e-mail humanityhomecarellc@gmail.com.

Despite ominous forecasts predicting thunderstorms, the event took place as scheduled, and attendees enjoyed music, food, raffles, free blood pressure tests, and activities for all ages throughout the day.

The event was organized by owner and manager FaithA'Lee Goclowski and business partner Trenice Mikita, who were on hand to let attendees know about the services Humanity Home Care offers to people all across Connecticut.

Those services include non-medical home health aide and companion care services for the elderly, mentally and/or physically challenged - and those transitioning back home from an assisted living setting, hospital, nursing home, or rehabilitation facility.

The group allows individuals to remain in their homes safely and comfortably with companion care services like taking clients to appointments, running errands, preparing meals, and various housekeeping needs. It also has home health aide services that include hands-on care like bathing, dressing, and other personal-care needs.

Half of all the proceeds made from the Humanity To A Community event went towards Mission 22, a nonprofit designed to raise awareness, enlist support, and prevent suicide among military veterans.

Sandy Hook resident Greg Bomba was among the many vendors creating customized hand-carved signs for attendees to enjoy.

Other vendors participating were Twisted Fish Creations, showcasing its variety of sea glass art; Rad Art Face Painting, which had a special American Flag painting class later in the evening; EnV Hair Lounge and Wig Center, which brought its products to show; and JXP East Coast LLC, whose certified trainer Terrance Deyo educated people about non-lethal pepper spray guns.

Beach Body, which creates customized workouts and meal plan programs, also was at the event, along with Paparazzi, a lead- and nickel-free jewelry line; beauty, health, and wellness company Arbonne; ShutterToThink Inflatable Photo Booth Rentals; the workout program MindFit, which did a special wellness demonstration class; and Ace Cosmetology & Barber Training Center, which did free haircuts all day.

Sunday's event also featured enough food to feed 500, Ms Goclowski said. Food was donated by Dunkin Donuts in Monroe; Bagel Man in Brookfield; Dew Drop Inn in Derby; and The Greeks, Caloroso Eatery and Bar, DJ's Pizza, and Dave's Catering, all located in Shelton.
