How To Open That New Locker

Stuck staring at that lock to that new combination-locked locker? For students who have gone through the Newtown School System, Reed Intermediate is the first school where students have lockers with combination locks on them. Other students may be experiencing them for the first time at Newtown Middle School or at Newtown High School if they transferred into the district as new students this year from a school system without combination locks.

Reed Intermediate School held specific open house days over the summer for students to practice opening the combination locks on the lockers there.

For those students who were unable to attend and are feeling a little anxious about those locks, there is a code to follow when opening a combination lock, as handed out by Reed Intermediate School to students this summer.

Set the lock to zero.

Turn the lock to the right two times past zero to the first number in the combination, which should be provided for students before they are attempting to open their lockers.

Turn the lock left and go past the first number in the combination to stop on the second number in the combination. It is important to go past the first number before stopping on the second number, otherwise the combination will not work.

Finally, turn the lock right and stop at the third number in the combination. The lock should open for when the student pulls up on the handle.

Staff and faculty are also available to help students with lockers in the school in the event of confusion.
