Historic Site Seeking Help
EAST GRANBY ââ In these days of shrinking government budgets and limited resources, Old New-Gate Prison and Copper Mine, a Colonial-era museum, has fallen victim. Closed more than a year ago due to budget constraints by the State of Connecticut, which owns and operates the museum, Old New-Gate may soon see students and visitors again.
Old New-Gate Prison and Copper Mine, Inc., the 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, consists of 30 New England residents who are looking for people throughout the region to help re-open the historic treasure. The preservation group is urging the public to donate money to refurbish the site, contribute time to help educate the public about Old New-Gateâs situation, and in general support reopening an expanded New-Gate village living history museum by contacting the Connecticut State Legislature to encourage the transfer to the nonprofit group.
