Health Lecture With Dr Carney To Cover Lowering Cholesterol

MONROE — A Winter Health Lecture Series continues with an informative talk by Newtown naturopathic physician Dr Shawn Carney. The talks, lasting one hour each, include a question and answer session. Lectures are free, and no registration is required. All lectures begin promptly at 6 pm.

The next talk in the series is February 29 at Foodworks Super Natural Foods, 477 Main Street in the Clocktower Plaza, and will cover “Lowering Cholesterol and Triglycerides Naturally.”

The most commonly prescribed drug in the United States is a statin medication prescribed to lower high lipid levels, according to Dr Carney. Unfortunately, these types of medications can have serious side effects.

The local naturopathic physician who operates Northeast Natural Medicine, LLC, will discuss science-based natural methods to lower cholesterol and triglycerides to acceptable levels. Dr Carney will also address the influence of glycemic index and insulin levels on blood lipids.

After graduating with honors as a double major in philosophy and environmental science from Purchase College in New York, Dr Carney continued to pursue a fusion of these interests by undertaking a career in integrative medicine. He received a doctorate in naturopathic medicine from the University of Bridgeport and is a licensed naturopathic physician in the state of Connecticut. He employs botanical medicine, nutrition, homeopathy, counseling, and physical medicine in his approach to optimizing health.
