MUST RUN 10-5

DEBORAH DAVIS SALLY BOWRING

ak/lsb set 9/28 #713993

HUDSON, N.Y. — Deborah Davis Fine Art, Inc, 510 Warren Street, is featuring paintings by Richmond, Va., artist Sally Bowring through October 22. The paintings, from a body of work titled “In My Garden,” are built with veils of color, marks and stenciled forms and colors that range from the atmospheric to the saturated.

A native New Yorker, Bowring’s paintings reference garden arrangement, natural patterns and textiles and are a combination of intuitive decisions with formal structure.

Philosophically, Bowring’s paintings address issues of fragmentation and segmentation. Most of her paintings give the sense that perhaps something has been left out or needs to be filled in.

Commenting on the theme of this body of work, Bowring says, “The early sprout in the spring garden promises and implies the full life cycle. Being partly done, unfinished, or not fully developed, it embodies an optimistic promise for things continuing, things in the middle of something with more to come.”

Bowring teaches painting at Virginia Commonwealth University and is the public art coordinator for the City of Richmond’s 1 percent For Art Program. Her artwork has been exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally and can be found in many corporate and private collections in the United States.
