Hawleyville Incident

Police report motorist Barbara Manville, 42, of 15 Timber Mill Road, Sandy Hook, who was driving a Ford Windstar minivan westbound on Mt Pleasant Road about 12:45 pm September 26, was stopped at a traffic signal at Mt Pleasant Road’s intersection with Hawleyville Road, when a white truck, which bore yellow-and-black out-of-state marker plates, bumped into the Ford from behind.

The truck then passed the Ford on the right and turned right onto Hawleyville Road, police said.

The unknown truck driver evaded responsibility, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the accident to contact them at the police station at 426-5841.

Pontiac Vs Woodchipper

Police report motorist Emileo Dumond, 33, of 1 Pocono Road, Hawleyville, who was driving a 1965 Pontiac Tempest southbound on Currituck Road about 9:40 am September 27, drove over an orange traffic cone and struck a woodchipper which was connected to a parked Davey Tree Experts cherry picker truck.

When the collision occurred, Gary Grella, Jr, 40, of Waterbury was inside the lifting bucket on the truck, police said. There were no injuries.

Dumond told police he did not see a construction sign or a flagman near the truck, police said.

Police issued Dumond an infraction ticket concerning unsafe travel within a construction zone.

 

Exit 9 Accident

State police report a two-car accident at the end of eastbound Interstate-84’s Exit 9 off-ramp about 4:30 pm October 1.

State police said motorist Ronald Teixeira, 45, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1969 MG MGB sports car, was stopped at the end of the ramp and waiting to turn right onto Hawleyville Road when he was struck from behind at low speed by motorist Susan M. Orr, 45, of 2 Susan Lane, who was driving a 1989 Subaru GL station wagon.

State police said they issued Orr a written warning for making an unsafe movement from a stopped position.

Exit 10 MVA

State police report a one-car accident on a westbound Interstate-84 ramp at Exit 10 about 8:30 pm September 26.

State police said motorist Francis Jourdain, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Corolla on the ramp, braked to avoid an animal and slid on the wet pavement, striking some guard railing.

Jourdain was not injured, state police said. State police said they warned Jourdain for travelling too fast.

 

Ram Pasture

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Sugar Street, next to the Ram Pasture, about 5:30 pm September 29.

Police said motorist Kandy F. Yuen, 40, of Southbury, who was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Prizm eastbound on Sugar Street, stopped for a red light at its intersection with Main Street. An eastbound 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by Michael H. Tanuis, 28, of Litchfield, struck the Prizm from behind, police said.

Yuen was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked on a complaint of chest pain, police said.

Police said they verbally warned Tanuis for following too closely.

Boulevard Collision

Police said an accident between a sedan and a sport-utility vehicle occurred about 4:45 pm September 23 on The Boulevard.

Police said motorist Andrew J. Foote, II, 23, of 175 Hanover Road was driving a 1987 Chrysler New Yorker southbound, when while negotiating a right curve, skidded on wet pavement and struck a northbound 1985 Jeep Cherokee driven by William J. Gollinski, 30, of Burlingham, California.

Passengers in the Jeep were Noelle Gollinski, 30, and infant Rayven Gollinski, who was born in July, police said. The Jeep passengers are from Bethel. The infant was in the left rear passenger area, police said.

Police said William Gollinski and the infant were transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated.

Police issued Foote an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Grand Place

Motorist Theresa Ali, 38, of 46 Little Brook Lane was driving a 2000 Kia Sportage on Grand Place about 8 pm October 2 when a deer ran out onto the road and struck the side of the vehicle, police said.

Ali was not injured, police said. The deer dented the Kia, but appeared to be unhurt after the impact, police said. There was no enforcement action.
