Hawk Gridders To Host Glastonbury In State Playoffs

Newtown High School’s football team will host Glastonbury in the Class LL state playoff quarterfinals on Tuesday, December 1. Kickoff, at Blue & Gold Stadium, is set for 6:30 pm. The Nighthawks (9-1) are seeded fourth in the bracket, and Glastonbury (8-1) is ranked fifth.

The winner will play in the semifinals on Monday, December 7; the highest-seeded teams to advance in the quarters will host semifinal contests. Sites and times will be determined for the state championship games, and the Class LL finale is scheduled for Saturday, December 12.

Other teams in the Class LL bracket are top-seeded Shelton, No. 2 Darien, No. 3 Southington, No. 6 Conard, No. 7 Staples, and No. 8 West Haven.

Seedings and matchups were announced by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) on the morning of Friday, November 27. Complete information may be found at casciac.org.

Newtown players prepare for the snap during the final regular-season game, a 40-8 win at Masuk, on November 25. The Nighthawks, with the win, locked up a home game in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs. Newtown will host Glastonbury on Tuesday, December 1, beginning at 6:30 pm.
