Gymnasts Compete

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team competed against Staples of Westport and Oxford at Weston Middle School on January 18. Staples won the meet with a score of 127.15, Oxford was second with 121.85, and Newtown placed third with 119.95.

The Nighthawks were led by Meg Foy with an all around score of 30.55. Foy earned an 8.35 in the vaulting event, an 8.1 in the floor exercise, 7.35 on the balance beam, and 6.75 on the uneven bars.

Leah Wallace compiled a score of 30.4 with an 8 on the vault, 7.8 on the floor, 7.4 on beam, and 7.2 on the bars. Anna Jannott had a score of 29.6. Jannott scored a 7.8 on the vault, 7.5 on both the floor and beam, and a 6.8 on the bars. Kaitlyn Tumney had a 29.4 behind an 8.5 effort on the floor, 7.8 on vault, 6.6 on the beam, and 6.5 on the bars. Jenny Indelicato scored a 26.6 with a 7.6 on the vault, 7.3 on the floor, 6.3 on the bars, and 5.4 on the beam.

Newtown battled with Trumbull, Darien and Oxford, in Fairfield on January 24. Darien scored 127.9 points to narrowly edge out Newtown with 127.75. Oxford had 121.7 and Trumbull scored 117.2.

On the vault, Wallace scored a 9 and Wilson had an 8.8. On the bars, Wilson had an 8 and Wallace scored a 7.8. The Wilson-Wallace tandem led the way on the beam with Wilson earning an 8.3 for her routine and Wallace scoring a 7.8. On the floor, Wilson, Wallace, and Tumney had scores of 8.8, 8.6, and 8.5, respectively.
