Gymnastics Team Comes Out On Top

Newtown High School's gymnastics team earned first place in two of its final three meets of the regular season. The Nighthawks won in a February 13 visit to New Milford, scoring 131.7 points to edge second-place Oxford (131.5). They were second with 130.8 points to host Fairfield Ludlowe (135.45) in a February 16 meet. Newtown won at home, at Oxford's Kinetic Kids Gymnastics, on February 19; The Hawks scored 132.650 to defeat five opponents.

In the meet at New Milford, Ally Kenny was second in the all around with a score of 33.75, and placed second on the floor with an 8.45. Emma Delia was third in the all around with a 33.65, and won on bars with a score of 9.6. Hannah Jojo came in third in the all around with a 33.55, and tied for first on the beam with a score of 8.6.

Delia won the bars competition, with a score of 9.2, and the floor exercise with a 9.05 in the visit to Ludlowe.

In the finale, Delia and Jojo gave Newtown a one-two finish on bars with scores of 8.9 and 8.6. Delia had Newtown's best score on the vault with an 8.5, as well as the team's top performance on the floor with a score of 8.8. Kenny had Newtown's best score on the beam with an 8.75.
